Cheap hotel recommendations in Orlando, Florida – Part 1

I used to live in Orlando, FL for over 30 years before I married and moved out of state. I know and understand what it is like to live in Orlando. It isn’t cheap to live there even though the young and old travel to this area to either be snowbirds or to visit the Magic Kingdom or the area attractions. I would recommend that you look either on-line at different websites that specialize in finding reasonable and cheap hotels or calling around for reasonable and cheap hotels in the area. Also if you are a member of AAA, then call them and ask for rates that are inexpensive. It also would depend on when you want to go and Read the rest of this entry »

Where to go dancing in Phoenix

I love to go dancing. When I go on vacation I always try to get my husband to take me out to a dance club. I have been to Phoenix, Arizona once and there was a club we went to that was a lot of fun. I think the place was called Axis/Radius and it has two clubs in one. I really enjoyed it. Great music and a great crowd. We had to be dressed up so we had to go back to our hotel since my husband wasn’t dressed nice enough. That was embarrasing. We went back and enjoyed ourselves. It is kind of expensive though. There is also a lot of people there in the club and can Read the rest of this entry »

The best hotel deals in Albany, Oregon – Part 1

Nestled along the Willamette River, just ten miles from Corvallis, is Albany, a fast-growing community in Oregon. If you’re driving north or south on I-5, take the Exit 234A for motels west of the freeway and 234B for those east. The University towns of Corvallis and Eugene are the ones in the news especially during football season, but Albany is a comfortable town that offers good lodging and restaurants. There’s a shopping mall and historic old town to explore plus beautiful parks and hiking and biking trails.

QUALITY INN at 1100 Price Road has spacious rooms, a continental breakfast complete with waffles, omelets, biscuits and gravy, and fresh fruit and cereal. The site boasts an Read the rest of this entry »

Phoenix: Seasonal weather and what to expect

When I moved to Phoenix, people told me to get a white car because it would be cooler. Well, I quickly learned that when temperatures exceed 110 degrees, it doesn’t matter what color of car you drive. It’s hot. Peak summer temperatures aside, Phoenix has some of the best weather this country has to offer. All the hotels and resorts know it, too. That’s why they double their rates in the winter months.

Winter is the time when Phoenix weather stands apart from the rest of the country. Mornings start out cool and turn sunny and warm in the afternoon. We have winter storms like everyone else, even hail and a dusting of snow, but it never lasts for very Read the rest of this entry »

Cheap hotel recommendations in New York City

In a city dominated by high taxes and strict government regulations, it is no wonder that hotels end up having to pass along their increased costs to consumers. Finding a reasonably priced good night’s sleep in New York City can be a daunting task, but with a little research, the savvy traveler can usually locate a good bargain.

This past year I have visited the Big Apple twice. In both cases, I stayed at hotels within the Holiday Inn family, and was able to stay for free using Priority Club reward nights. I realize that not everyone may have this option available; however, the hotels I stayed at seemed to offer pretty good value in New Read the rest of this entry »

Best day spas in Phoenix

Ah, Phoenix; the sun, the desert landscape and vistas, the wide open spaces. The scorching hot summers are made bearable by one thing, a seriously low humidity. Though temperatures are tolerable even in the triple digits, the dry air can leave hair and skin feeling like a desert snake that needs to shed its skin. We can’t do that, but we can visit one of the day spas.

As a long time Phoenix area resident, I’ve had opportunities to sample some of the best day spas. I’ll share my all-time favorites with you.

Willow Stream Spa at the Fairmont Scottsdale Princess

This spa is hidden away in the far corner of the beautiful Princess resort in North Scottsdale. Park near the spa Read the rest of this entry »

Tips for visiting Hollywood, Los Angeles – Part 2

My first visit to Hollywood was in 1944. I was 18, just out of Navy boot camp and on my way to a ship assignment at the Navy station on Treasure Island in San Francisco Bay. Because we had three extra days, we three sailors decided to spend them in Los Angeles.

We checked into a free serviceman’s bunkhouse in a renovated hotel just off Hollywood Boulevard, then rushed to check out the town. Earning $54 a month, we didn’t have much money, but in wartime Hollywood, we could stop in at half a dozen places for free meals any time of the day. The movie, “Hollywood Canteen” had been released couple of months before, and that was our first Read the rest of this entry »

Best budget hotels in Phoenix – Part 1

Okay, one of the most important aspects to traveling is finding an affordable hotel. Upon my most recent visit to phoenix I was taken aback by a wonder place called Hotel San Carlos, this wonderful boutique style hotel was built in 1928.

I was really impressed with the style of this hotel, talk about a blast from the past. I originally got the idea to come here when I saw a special on travel channel, apparently this hotel is haunted by a ghost who jumped to her death.

Although I didn’t experience any haunting I was shaking in my shoes for the entire night, but to be fair we can’t all have iron hearts.

Yes, I’m a chicken I admit. But Read the rest of this entry »
